Mishca / New Zealand

Hey I'm Mishca, living in Dunedin, New Zealand. I work with Alex Lovell_Smith and Emily (who some of you may have met). Emily and I will have a space (workshop/gallery/gig) sorted in the next month. Everyone is welcome to have work involved in this space if you are interested... will keep you all updated when things start falling into place.

Art/photography to me seems not to be something to define but to interpret, a view or idea of an individual or group. This is not necessarily ‘truth’ or ‘real’, it just 'is'. Does this idea fit in context with a working class society? Generally people won't admit there is more than one way to operate and perceive life.

A direction that could be taken is to create situations where one could force an audience to ‘see’ an object or entity, carefully manipulating the subject matter in a way that forces the creation of thought, reactions, even interactions in an audience that would not have otherwise been stimulated in everyday life.

Examples... soon

  2. i agree that not all art is in a sense 'defineable.' i imagine that people get caught up in the idea of what photography represents, considering that part of the definition. and, i'll say it, syntax. i feel like people want a definition so that they know and can understand what they are working with or are trying to analyze.

people have a difficult time grasping the concept of multiple perspectives on a subject like photography because of a societal construction about 'what it is' or 'what it's supposed to be.' most of them just haven't been given a choice or example of another way to look at it. and sometimes i imagine it would take a series of ... levels or examples. which is what i'm assuming you want to do.

i'm interested in trying to orchestrate some kind of an example to make people see. but i feel as if some people are thicker than you'd imagine. and i'm not sure how possible it would be to make them all see it in the same way. but i'm excited to see what your starting ideas are to make them and to help work out kinks or make work in the same vein to show with you.
